A man who holds a permanent place in my heart, even though he has departed to heaven

To be honest, Father’s Day has always been underrated, statistics do show that people spend the most on Mother’s Day and who can blame them right? They are special to us BUT we do want to express our love and gratitude to our Father’s as well!

My father played a dual role in my life, serving as both my mother and father. He selflessly devoted himself to his children. Today, I want to take a moment to express my gratitude to my father, as I owe much of who I am today to his love and passion. His unwavering support and belief in me gave me the courage and strength to pursue my own aspirations.

I also have a little secret to share with you, especially to all the ladies out there, whether you're daughters or wives. Men often neglect to indulge in self-care and pampering. We shower them with love and care, but when it comes to taking a little time for themselves, particularly in terms of skincare and maintenance, they tend to overlook it. I'll admit, I've been guilty of this myself! I have a consistent skincare routine and regular treatments, but my father was the last person who would consider doing the same. On one occasion, when he visited me from San Diego, I jokingly offered him a facial. He chuckled and replied, "Are you kidding me? I'm already old, I don't need a facial, and people will make fun of me." Despite his initial reluctance, I managed to persuade him to give it a try. And you know what? He became hooked. Every time he visited us, he would actually request a facial/treatment, without any prompting from me.

So, I encourage you to encourage the special man in your life, whether it's your father or husband, to explore the world of facials. Show them your love by treating them to a little pampering, allowing them some relaxation time, and offering expert advice from the estheticians at Beauty Journey Studio. Not only will your man come out looking great, but we also provide all the necessary tools and products for him to maintain his appearance at home. Even if he only tries it once, we have everything he needs to continue looking fantastic. Like my dad, most men have never experienced a facial and are often hesitant to ask for one. With just a gentle nudge, they may discover that they've been missing out on something truly enjoyable all this time.

To the Men Who Make Us Feel Inspiration and Loved

My dad was a very, very good man.

I know a lot of people say this about their father - but my dad, he was really something great.

My dad never got a formal education, but his intense desire to learn made him creative and cunning. Dad taught himself how to read by intently studying newspapers and books he found around his house when he was a child. He peered through the windows of classrooms, trying desperately to grasp the material on the chalkboard from his hidden spot outside. Nothing stopped my dad from learning and growing. Dad taught himself Teochew Chinese, Cantonese, Mandarin, and Vietnamese.

When my mom passed away in 1986, Dad jumped in with both feet to be housekeeper, teacher, mother, father, and the hardest worker I’ve ever known.

Our family owned a dried goods store. My dad worked himself to the bone, carrying huge bags of dried food to be delivered in our community. But I never heard my dad complain.

In fact, he gave us the best of him at all times. He always put us kids first (10 of us in total!), bringing home delicious dishes or sharing a durian. I think fondly of times sharing durians with my dad even as an adult.

He brought us to the US to build a relationship with his grandchildren later on in life and lived out the rest of his life surrounded by love and family, as he always wanted.

He had the biggest, most generous heart - endlessly giving without asking in return. He wasn’t one for sharing sentiments or mushy words, instead to show his love through actions, warm meals, and tropical foods to his family.

Thank you for allowing me to honor my dad by writing about him. I miss him every day, and it warms my heart to be able to share a tiny snippet of his beautiful life story with you.

I love you always, Dad. Happy Father’s Day.

And to you - I hope that you are warmed by memories of your own father on this special day, whether he’s with you closed by/far distance or in spirit.

A story from my heart for Mother's Day

My mother faced a lot of heartbreaks in her life, but it never made her hard. I was still young when she passed away at the young age of 49. However, the amount of lessons I learned from my mom in the short time shaped the way I am. I am blessed to have her in my life.

Moms shape who we are 💑

MOMs teach ✍️ us the lessons we never forget👣

Moms show us what love 💗looks like.

My mother faced a lot of heartbreaks in her life, but it never made her hard. I was still young when she passed away at the young age of 49. However, the amount of lessons I learned from my mom in the short time shaped the way I am. I am blessed to have her in my life.

I’m told I had a big brother, though I never met him. He passed away before I was born. We weren’t allowed to talk about him in my household, but I know for sure that my mother was crushed.

My mother’s grief softened over time but began to show itself in a different way. She dressed me in boy’s clothes and gave me a boy's haircut. It was like she was trying to hold on to the spirit of my brother by having me dress like him.

I didn't understand this until many years later because I wasn’t told about my big brother when I was young, but I went along with it because I just wanted to make my mother smile. I loved to see her smile.

This continued on for many years until one day I returned home from school in a panic. There was blood on the inside of my pants and I was sure I must be dying! I ran to my mom, begging for her to save me from certain death.

My mother smiled calmly and proudly.

She explained that I had just got my first period.

This meant I was a woman now 💃

She said to me, "Kristina, I'm going to buy you a dress, and we will grow out your hair. You're a woman now!"

Her bright smile made me calm down immediately. My mother seemed to think this was a very good thing!

Along with the good news that she would buy me dresses and that I could grow my hair longer, she gave me the following advice:

“Never let any boys or men touch your hand - you’ll get pregnant!”

Though this advice sounds a little bizarre and funny in retrospect, please laugh with me 😉, it worked like a charm: I never let any man touch me until I met my husband when I was 30 years old.

So I have my mom to thank for waiting until I met a good man to take care of me, too.

I love you forever, Mom. Happy Mother’s Day 💗💗

To all of you reading this, I hope you are surrounded by love this Mother’s Day. My One & Only Lovely Dad

Have a happy father's day!

This year, father’s Day can be an emotional time of year because my dad is no longer with me. But whether you’re young, old, a parent, or childless, just because your father has passed away doesn’t mean you have to bury yourself under the covers and wait for the day to be over.

One of the best ways to grieve the loss of my father on Father’s Day is going to the cemetery. To remember my loving father, I foster warm memories and live the happy and joyful life my father expected me to live.

One of the best ways to grieve the loss of my father on Father’s Day is going to the cemetery. To remember my loving father, I foster warm memories and live the happy and joyful life my father expected me to live.

Looking back

I have always bragged and unapologetically been proud of my father who is undoubtedly the most handsome, generous, and loving man. He had natural gravitation that made him loved by many.

Why do I feel this way?

He never had the opportunity to receive a formal education but his curiosity and ambition enabled him to find innovative ways to learn. He built his knowledge by veering into school windows and reading books and newspapers to grasp the material!

Everything he learned, he learned by observation and he mastered the ability to speak many different languages, including Teochew Chinese, Cantonese, Mandarin, and Vietnamese.

He took two roles in my close-knit family after my mom passed away in the solemn year of 1986. He worked hard to care for his children. His nobility never once allowed him to complain and he graciously took on the role of both mother and father. To the end, he was always independent, never imparting his burden to his children, and always putting the needs of others before himself.

His generosity was shown through his love to give to others and never ask for anything in return. A man of principles, he willingly gave from his heart.

His true one-of-a-kind nature was stern yet loving; a man of simple words, who showed his love through meaning and action. He was of strong character, both mentally and physically, and at the end of his life, he showed determination with commitments to being a righteous man.

Dad, I am missed dearly you and your efforts will forever influence and deeply impact my life forever.
