See Long-lasting Results When You Commit to Skincare this Year
Your skin is the fist thing people see when they meet you. It’s a giant part of a first impression, and the truth is, it says a lot about you.
This is a tough reality for anyone who suffers or has suffered from acne. And it’s equally tough for anyone noticing the signs of aging.
Your skin is the fist thing people see when they meet you. It’s a giant part of a first impression, and the truth is, it says a lot about you.
This is a tough reality for anyone who suffers or has suffered from acne. And it’s equally tough for anyone noticing the signs of aging.
We know how big an impact our skin has in our daily lives, and yet we tend to treat skincare as if it was an occasional luxury or a special treat. We spend more time making sure our highlights aren’t grown out, that our bikini lines are waxed and that our toenails are painted the latest color than taking care of our skin. It seems a little lopsided. After all, most of that maintenance gets covered up with clothes, hats and shoes.
But our skin is ALWAYS on display. You’d think we’d put that first.
When we treat our skin well, our skin rewards us by looking great.
You wouldn’t go to the dental hygienist every 6 months and not do anything between visits. You would brush your teeth every day, floss and maintain dental hygiene.
Likewise you wouldn’t go the gym once to lose weight. You would go regularly, eat well, and then maintain both to keep weight off and dedication, we could be way more confident and carefree.
Treating our skin is a lifelong commitment and is important for everyone, regardless of what your skin looks like today. Sunlight, pollution, dietary splurges, and the weather are just some of the things that can affect our complexion. So it’s always important to be doing what we can to minimize the effects of these influences. And it’s especially important to dedicate yourself to a comprehensive skincare regimen when you’re looking to make a drastic improvement – like clearing acne or smoothing wrinkles.
We can easily get the impression that skincare is something to address only when there’s a problem. And lots of people live by this rule. Once they see a problem crop up, only THEN do they attempt to address it. And because everything in our world is so instantaneous, we expect that there must be some quick-fix for any and every skin problem. Magazines and television commercials only corroborate this myth.
But that’s not the case at all.
How many times have you bought that miracle Serum that makes wrinkles disappear or the cream that obliterates pimples overnight, only to stow away these half used bottles in whatever drawer is closest. We buy these “quick-fixes” because they’re cheap enough to try, but more often than not, they have little to no value.
Add up all the money you’ve spent on whim purchases and on skincare that has no effect, and you’d likely have a pretty big chunk of change. Imagine what would happen if you put that money toward a real skincare regimen. One that actually pumps you skin full of the nutrients it needs to work its best and look its brightest.
Then you could say goodbye to these impulse purchases that will only end up taking up space behind your mirror.
2018 is the time to implement skincare practices that truly make a difference in your appearance, that get rid of that acne for good, and that give you the skin that you so desperately crave and deserve.
If we want great skin, we have to follow the same logic that we would follow if we wanted to get in shape and lose twenty pounds. That’s the only path to truly healthy, beautiful skin. And as soon as we allow ourselves to slack off, we’re going to see a difference that isn’t so welcome.
That’s not to say that you have to overwhelm yourself with skin treatments and fill your bathroom with skincare products until it’s overflowing. The solution is to simply be mindful in 2018. Good skin comes from having a good skin care regimen, coming in for treatments, and maintaining those good practices in between your treatments.
We can help you customize the regimen that’s best for you at Beauty Journey. Come in for a consult, and get this year started off right.
Why Everything You Know About Healthy Eating Could Be Wrecking Your Skin
When you hear the word fat come up in discussions about food, what is your first reaction? If you’re like most of the American population, your reaction is likely negative. Fats are synonymous with the word, “bad” in our culture. When we are inspired to get healthy, the first thing we tend to do is cut out fat from our diet. We seek out low-fat alternatives and limit our fat intake as much as we possibly can.
But when we eliminate the fat from our diet, we are doing ourselves a huge disservice in terms of our health. Because contrary what we’ve become accustomed to believing, fat is actually good. Somehow along the way “being fat” got confused with “eating fat,” and the result is that in our efforts to avoid being fat, we simply refuse to eat large quantities fat.
Granted there is one kind of fat that is bad for us. That’s trans fats, found in processed and refined foods, but aside from these fats, the rest of them are vital to our health. And perhaps the most vital of these fats are known as Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs). They are known as essential because our bodies can’t produce them on our own. They MUST come from our diet. And the low fat fad diets are one of the primary reasons why 8 in 10 people are deficient in EFAs.
So big deal. We are probably deficient in all sorts of vitamins and minerals that are important, and nothing much happens as a result, right?
Wrong.
Without getting too much into the science of it, EFAs are vital for a whole slew of functions within the body. We need EFAs to maintain a healthy heart, to lubricate our joints, to assist with brain function AND to maintain healthy skin. EFAs allow our cells to protect themselves from damage and to regulate the nutrients that get through. And they also play a big role in hydration and maintaining the free water levels beneath the skin’s surface. When we are low on EFAs, our body adapts and sends whatever is available to the most important areas first. That means the heart and brain are at the top of the list. And what do you think is at the very bottom?
That’s right – the skin.
When the skin isn’t getting enough EFAs, it means that the skin cells can’t properly do their job, resulting in holding onto old cells longer than they should and the inability to flush out harmful toxins and waste.
For the skin, this means a flat, matte appearance, redness, breakouts that won’t heal, eczema and related dry conditions, capillary damage, premature aging, loss of resiliency, and a plethora of other unattractive conditions. If you’ve ever wondered why it seems like you’re doing all sorts of healthy skincare treatments, eating a low-fat “healthy” diet and still not seeing the results you hope for, EFA deficiency could be the cause.
Expecting your skin to look vibrant and healthy without providing it with EFAs, is like sending your kid to school without books, pencils and notebooks. They are in the right place, but don’t have the tools to achieve anything. Our skin is in the same situation when we don’t provide it with EFAs.
Menopausal women struggle with EFA deficiency the most. As menopause occurs, many women notice an increase in weight due to slower metabolism and hormone changes. Naturally, they combat this weight gain by eating less and cutting fat like we mentioned earlier. This usually doesn’t help their weight much AND leaves them short of EFAs and now struggling with their skin as well.
Supplying your body with EFAs is the first step to any successful skincare regimen. Lots of times when a specific course of action is not working at the salon level, it’s because a person is deficient in EFAs. That means no matter what we do in the spa bed, it will have little to no effect.
That’s why it’s vital to do your homework once you leave the salon. Eating enough EFAs through diet alone can be tricky and difficult to measure. But, not to fear - supplements can achieve the same effect as diet changes, as long as they are high quality and reputable. And we’ve made it incredibly easy to get your hands on these supplements by offering them at Beauty Journey.
If you’re wondering if you might be EFA deficient, ask your therapist at your next appointment, and we can steer you in the right direction. Of course, please understand that though we have lots of knowledge in this arena, we are not doctors. We can make helpful suggestions, but it's best to always run any supplement plans by your doctor just to be sure.

Foods to Avoid This Holiday Season
One of the best parts of the holiday season is all of the delicious food there is to eat. Although we don’t want you to deprive yourself of your favorites, it does pay to eat smart. After all, the food we eat is directly connected, not just to what size pants we’ll be wearing, but to our skin. So although you might be able to rationalize that slice of pie in exchange for a new gym membership in January, that pie can also mean a breakout of blemishes for the annual family Christmas photo. And that photo could be framed on the mantel for many years to come, so it’s best to know when to splurge and when to decline.

So although you might be able to rationalize that slice of pie in exchange for a new gym membership in January, that pie can also mean a breakout of blemishes for the annual family Christmas photo. And that photo could be framed on the mantel for many years to come, so it’s best to know when to splurge and when to decline.
By far, the worst holiday splurge of all is Egg Nog. This creamy cup of deliciousness can spell disaster for your skin AND waistline. Sugar, milk and fat are a recipe for disaster when it comes to the skin. They increase oil production and therefore make your skin a perfect habitat for bacteria. If you must have your egg nog to truly feel in the holiday spirit, have a very small portion and keep the alcohol out of it.
Which brings us to a second holiday no-no. Alcohol. I know it’s difficult to deal with old Uncle Ernie without a drink your hand, but if possible, go easy on these tasty beverages. Alcohol is very dehydrating, and your body will respond by taking much needed water away from the skin, so you’ll likely end up with a dry and flaky complexion. It’s not the best look. If you must indulge, try going with clear spirits like vodka paired with a non-sugary mixer like soda water. Add a squeeze of lemon or lime for flavor.
Creamy Dips are dangerous. Don’t let the carrot you’re dipping into it fool you. These dips are generally bowls of mayo, cream cheese or sour cream. They can spell disaster for the skin. Instead set your radar on the shrimp cocktail and cocktail sauce or baked tortilla chips and salsa. These are much better options.
Beware of Casseroles and Creamed Vegetables. Yes, we understand that they are vegetables and potentially have a lot a great nutrients in them, but the term casserole or creamed should serve as a warning. Usually that means tons of cream, butter and salt, none of which are good for your skin. Get your dose of vegetables at the appetizer tray. Raw carrots, red peppers, broccoli and celery dipped in hummus is a better place to stock up on vegetables than those enveloped in lots of cream.
Potatoes are another tricky one. Like vegetables, make sure they are not stuffed with tons of cheese, bacon and sour cream. Stuffed potatoes can quickly go from healthy to not based on the toppings alone. Likely, there will be some sweet potatoes on the table as well. Stick to the these sweeter cousins as long as they are not overly candied. If they’ve got butter and marshmallow, then they can be just as bad. But a simple sweet potato with some cinnamon on it might be a delicious treat.
And last but not least, stay away from the Pie. It might look innocent enough filled with healthy fruit, but don’t be fooled. The crust is full of sugar, white flour, shortening and butter. And the fruit filling tastes great because it ‘s loaded with sugar. Pie is no friend to the skin. If you must indulge, seek out the pumpkin pie. The filling will have vitamin A and fiber in it, which is great for the skin. And if you can swing, it maybe leave the crust on the plate.
Now if you’ve got a bit of free time before your gatherings, and you think you might want to splurge a little bit, why not pre-game by scheduling yourself a facial. We’ve got just the thing to get you feeling your best so you can walk into your holiday parties feeling amazing. Schedule your appointment right here.
Lighting the Way to Younger, Smoother, Stronger Skin
If you struggle with acne, wrinkles or scarred skin, and you’re looking for a non-invasive solution that provides real results, listen up. Lightwave therapy may be the solution you’ve been seeking.
If you struggle with acne, wrinkles or scarred skin, and you’re looking for a non-invasive solution that provides real results, listen up. Lightwave therapy may be the solution you’ve been seeking.
In much the same way that the sun triggers photosynthesis in plants, Lightwave Therapy is a simple process by which we can purposely trigger natural cellular reactions to take place within the skin. These regenerative processes naturally improve skin, kill acne and decrease fine lines. The benefits of Lightwave therapy are related to the color of light that is emitted onto your skin, and when administered in a specific order, can stimulate the specific regenerative processes that you desire.
In the Lightwave Therapy offered at Beauty Journey, we use a combination of Red Light, Blue Light and Infrared Light.
Red Light stimulates fibroblasts to produce collagen and increases cellular turnover. For anyone suffering with skin damage, wrinkles or acne scars, this light helps start the processes that will give you younger, plumper looking skin.
Infrared Light goes deep beneath the surface of our skin, and is primarily absorbed by the proteins there. This light assists with cell permeability and increases our cells’ ability to absorb nutrients and remove waste.
Blue light is quickly absorbed by the acne-causing bacteria near the skin’s surface. This light causes the bacteria to produce a singlet oxygen free radical that in turn destroys the P. Acnes bacteria.
One of the biggest benefits of Lightwave Therapy is that it treats the problem, not just the symptoms. Skincare is a billion dollar industry, much of which includes, exfoliants, harsh cleansers and other treatments that simply strive to deal with the acne, the blemishes, the scars and the lines through whatever means necessary to get rid of things. But the symptoms wouldn’t exist, if we instead treated the core problem. Lightwave Therapy stimulates the skin to start these restorative processes itself, therefore eliminating the problems before they can cause symptoms.
And don’t be fooled, not all LED devices used at salons are created equal. A cheap device means minimal results. There’s a reason why the best treatments carry a higher price ticket, and it’s because the quality of both the machine and the light are critical for the best results. Shopping around for the best price on Lightwave Therapy means a sacrifice in quality.
A secondary benefit of LIghtwave Therapy is that there are literally no negative effects. Lots of skincare treatments require painful solutions or time-consuming treatments. There are tedious regimens, and creams and cleansers that burn our problems away, but don’t treat the root of the problem. They cost lots of money, might involve invasive procedures or extensive recovery time, but not Lightwave Therapy. The entire process takes under an hour, and most patients describe the experience as relaxing and soothing and enjoy the gentle warmth of the light of their faces.
The ideal client when it comes to this therapy is someone who is fed up with solutions that are temporary, uncomfortable and that quickly become a nuisance. If you’re budget-conscious, you’ll love Lightwave Therapy because although it can seem pricey at the outset, the results pay for themselves. Once you factor all the products and treatments that you’re constantly investing in to keep your skin looking healthy and vibrant, you’ll clearly see that Lightwave Therapy is a smart investment that makes lots of the old products obsolete. Plus you’re essentially giving your skin a bit tiny nudge to function at its best, to produce more collagen and kill the acne-causing bacteria. You just sit under a light for a little bit of time, and just like that your skin is working in your best interest.
Getting Lightwave Therapy on a regular basis is like getting a gym or yoga membership for your skin. You’re essentially committing to something that is going to help your skin perform and look its very best. You’ll leave our salon with that same sense of accomplishment and gratitude because you’ll understand that you’re doing something great for your body.
If you’re sold on the idea of Lightwave but wishing you could do it on a budget, you might be wondering why you couldn’t just purchase the cheaper at-home solutions and tools. There are few reasons, why we recommend NOT going this route. First off, the tools that you can buy and use yourself are less intense than what you would find offered at a salon. Therefore, the results that you’ll see are naturally limited. There’s also a science behind the whole Lightwave process. We understand exactly how long and what colors to use during your session an are intimately aware of what is going on beneath the surface. We understand exactly what your skin needs and how to administer it.
It’s similar to how doing yoga in your living room has some benefits, but attending a class with an experienced instructor among other students somehow offers more benefits and overcomes more challenges. You might be do Triangle pose all wrong for years without the presence of an instructor to offer that slight adjustment of your back foot.
If you’re ready to book your first Lightwave Session or if you simply want to chat with a person about how you might be the perfect candidate, contact us right here. or give us a call at 714-726-0504
Winning the War On Acne
Helping a lifelong acne sufferer clear her skin for good and start living her life with confidence.
For Vivian, acne has NEVER not been a problem. Teenage acne turned into adult acne, and her complexion simply kept getting worse and worse. She tried every treatment out there to no avail. It was only at the prospect of trying a controversial medication, ridden with side effects that she stopped to consider seeking out the professionals at Beauty Journey. But so many things had let her down in the past that she silently expected another failure.
The Challenge was clear:
· Vivian wanted a permanent solution to her consistent acne problem.
· She needed something that would treat the root of the problem so that it wouldn’t occur anymore, but she also needed something to help her resolve all the damage that had been done after every breakout in the past.
· And if the results were acceptable, she didn’t mind paying, but after so many failed attempts, she couldn’t shrug off the pestering feeling that she could be wasting her money yet again.
Some of the things Vivian had tried with no success included: nearly every over the counter acne cream, gel and wash, the Proactive line, specialty Korean skin products, and even prescription products diagnosed by her dermatologist. None of these made a difference.
Every failed attempt was not only costly, but it allowed for more damage to the skin, either because the medications were too harsh or because more breakouts meant more scarring.
Vivian was in an impossible and frustrating position.
The Outcome was clear as well – CLEAR SKIN that is:
Kristina, met with Vivian. From the first moment, it was clear to Vivian that Kristina genuinely cared about her clients. The first thing she noticed about Kristina was how sweet and helpful she was, but once she started talking about skin, it was evident she had a plethora of knowledge. That combination immediately calmed Vivian’s worries. She knew she was in good hands.
After an initial skin analysis, Vivian got the enhance Therapy with LED light and scar treatment.
“The Enhance Therapy included extractions, which were honestly not fun, but definitely beneficial. It was a relief knowing that my clogged pores were getting cleared and not simmering beneath the surface, waiting to turn into a gigantic pimple in my future.”
Vivian was impressed with how clean and sanitary the whole process was. Throughout the course of her treatment, there were many procedures and products used--too many for her to keep track of, but she had the utmost confidence in Kristina and was starting to see progress in her skin.
“From all this, I learned that it’s very important to be patient. Clear skin is not something that magically happens overnight. Long term acne must be treated from the outside and the inside, and this takes time.”
In the beginning there was a period of purging. Kristina explained that it has to get worse before it gets better, so Vivian was prepared to be patient. By the 4th -6th week, her skin still looked rough. It was a difficult time, but she didn’t give up. Eventually, the old pimples started going away and even the occasional new one healed super quickly. She felt her skin getting stronger, and after 6 Enhance treatments, her acne was mostly gone. She added one more round of scar treatment to target the stubborn older scars.
“I remember some of the pigmentation from large acne areas would take almost a year to fade naturally, but with the treatments, every week results were seen right away.”
Vivian learned a lot from her sessions. Kristina talked about the importance of hormone levels, and how balance plays such an integral role in skin health. Harmonized water and Dim supplements helped immensely with this.
As is the case for most people struggling with acne, product overload is a giant problem. There are so many options on the market, that it’s helpful to have an ally on your side who knows how to wade through what’s beneficial and what’s not.
“It’s definitely nice to just stick with an expert’s recommendation and have the peace of mind that I’m not randomly using something that will continue to clog my pores. My favorite is their sunblock. It goes on so smoothly and has a nice light tint that helps minimize the redness while my face heals.”
Beauty Journey understands that every outbreak is like a battle. It leaves scarring and damage, and is terrible to go through. Sometimes, you get lucky and a battle turns out to be minimal, but still the damage adds up, and the core problem just gets buried deeper. Beauty Journey is here to help you win the entire war on acne, to stop the very root of the problem, and to start living your life without wasting energy worrying about your skin.
Vivian took a chance on Beauty Journey when she at her wit’s end. And the results are astounding.
“I can’t say enough about how impressed I am with Beauty Journey. The results speak for themselves. Seeing others before/after pictures convinced me to give Beauty Journey a try, and now, looking at my Before/After pictures proves that I made the right decision. I am definitely planning on being a permanent client. I never want to deal with another round of purging, clogged pores and severe acne ever again. Thank you Kristina and Beauty Journey.”

Tis' the season to peel
When you think about getting a “peel,” you might immediately imagine a painful or harsh chemical treatment gone awry. We’ve all seen the movies of a “peel” gone wrong. Someone who was hardly in need of a peel was coaxed into it because of an upcoming date or other important event, walks into the salon looking fine, and leaves with a burnt, sensitive and alarming complexion. Best to file that into the “never do unless absolutely desperate” pile.
Fortunately, the “chemical peel” is going the way of the flip phone and Myspace. Today, the peels to take note of and that actually create a ton of good without the awful side effects are more holistic and natural.
One such peel is the Vitamin A Peel that we offer at Beauty Journey. We call it a Restorative Treatment Peel because that’s exactly what it is – a treatment meant to restore the natural, healthy state of your skin. If you’re feeling like your skin is dry, flaky or just a little bit sluggish, this infuse new energy and brightness down deep into your pores.
The Vitamin A peel is a non-acidic and infused with antioxidants and nutrients that nourish the skin from the inside out so that your skin will stays young, healthy and well. The Vitamin A that we use is massaged deep into the skin where it stimulates new, healthy cells to grow.
So what do you get with this type of peel?
Lots of results that promote healthy function of the skin! And skin that functions well on a cellular level, looks vibrant and healthy on an aesthetic level. Blood flow in the face improves, collagen is stimulated, acne and rosacea tendencies are muted, lines and wrinkles are reduced and oil production is equalized.
Plus the experience is not a burn. It’s not uncomfortable in any way. And you’re not “wounding” your skin in the hopes that it will heal into fresh, new skin. The experience you’ll receive is like that of a luxury facial, but the results you’ll see are like an anti-aging treatment.
The conventional chemical peel that you’ve heard of and maybe even considered is also just a one time solution. Your skin is burnt allowing new skin to form, which will create a more youthful appearance, but it doesn’t address sun damage and aging issues. The benefit of a Vitamin A peel is that you’re adding so much goodness into your skin, plus you’re stimulating the collagen production that is going to help you maintain that youthful appearance.
With the Restorative Treatment Peel, you have the opportunity to inhibit the signs of aging before they start or early on. It’s a preventative measure that can heal any current damage and set you up for success down the road. If you’re starting to see the small signs of aging, and it’s alarming, this restorative treatment is just the thing you need to take your future into your own hands. Plus who doesn’t love to pampered with a facial? Book now!

Stop Aging in Its Tracks
It’s just little things at first. Instead of ID-ing you at the liquor store, the cashier actually suggests a brand of wine that is similar to your regular brand. Every now and then, someone refers to you as a “ma’am” as you walk past. In your business meetings, you start to notice the eyes of the men in the room linger a little longer on the young new executive when they used to linger on you. And gradually and more often, you start to get waited on second at the deli counter or the bar or even the DMV as the younger women start to slip into your place. Eyes aren’t stopping on you anymore; they are passing right over you.
At first, it’s not quite so alarming. You probably don’t feel much different on the inside. After all, in our minds, we all feel perpetually 35 well into our years. It’s not until one day, when you suddenly see your reflection in the mirror, and it tells a different story than the one you were narrating in your head, that the panic sets in. You can see the tiny wrinkles outlining your eyes and small creases hovering over your upper lip. Your temples and cheeks have a hollowness that never used to be there. And your coloring suddenly looks dull and bland.
Then it hits you. You’ve become the older woman in the room. It’s not just a bad day after a restless night or the result of a stressful week. The lines you’re seeing aren’t going away after a good rest. This is the trajectory you’re now on. And it’s a one way train to irreparable old age. These are not just bumps in the road; this is a downhill slope and you’re slipping down the rocky face of it.
So then comes the dilemma about what to do about this conundrum. Because of course, there is a little bit of stigma that comes with anti-aging and the means we resort to so that we can hold onto our evasive beauty. Going overboard with surgeries that make you look fake or over-worked might reek of desperation and vanity, but you also don’t want to age gracefully by NOT doing anything and start getting mistaken as your mother’s sister instead of her daughter either! So where is the happy medium?
In essence, we feel a bit damned it we do, and damned if we don’t. How can we take care of and care about our reflections without feeling like we’re focused on fleeting superficial ideas?
There’s got to be natural solution. Something that can soften and reduce the effects of aging without making you look like you’re trying impossibly hard to hold onto the fleeting days of youth. How can you look your best AND make it seem to those who haven’t asked your secret that you’re simply slipping into your later years gracefully? The ideal solution is a treatment that flatters you, something that boosts your skin’s ability to maintain and prolong your youth and radiance rather than invasively re-creating it with surgery or paralyzing muscles with injections.
Luckily there is a solution that can do exactly that, all without the needles and without breaking the bank. The Sculplla Facial firms, tightens, smoothes, brightens, plumps and protects. It’s a Korean treatment that utilizes the same ingredients as the Sculptra injections that you’ll find dermatologists administering, but it’s done topically. The effects of this amped up facial are immediate, and the treatment is a simple 30-45 minute experience. You’ll see a brighter, younger, firmer complexion as you leave the salon, even after just one treatment, but that’s not where the positive effects stop.
Unlike filler treatments that work because they inhibit natural functions of the muscles, the Sculplla facial increases your skin’s natural collagen production. So your skin is improving and getting stronger in the weeks after your visit. You’re not constantly waiting for the treatment to wear off as time goes by, wondering if the next time you look in the mirror, the wrinkles will be back. You can rest assured knowing your body is creating collagen, just the thing that is typically disappearing as you get older. When you invest in Sculplla, you’re giving your body the tools it needs to be your best self.
Plus one of the best parts of the Sculplla facial is that it’s so non-invasive. It’s a facial after all, so it’s a relaxing and cleansing experience. It starts with a peel so that the formula can get in direct contact with the skin and start working. Then the mask is applied. While it’s sending the nutrients into your skin and inspiring collagen production to happen, it’s also purifying and cleansing your skin - An extra bonus. So you leave your session feeling rejuvenated and refreshed AND looking better with more benefits to come.
You can immediately go back to your life, whatever that consists of, knowing that your body is working for you, not against you. You’ll need to avoid showering or sweating for 12 hours, but that’s a great excuse to skip the gym for a day. Instead of leg day, it’s face day! Maybe you only have a couple of hours in between work and picking up the kids from practice. That’s more than enough time to stop in for a treatment. Your skin is getting brighter as you’re driving, as you’re working, as you’re watching your kids’ soccer games or relaxing with friends. Investing in you has never felt better.
What you’re basically doing is treating the source of the anti-aging problem rather than just dealing with the symptoms. When your body is consistently making its own collagen, it is going to naturally have a younger, smoother more radiant look. The Sculplla treatment is also packed with skin-saving peptides that have an anti-inflammatory effect. So your skin can finally relax. Picture your skin being on high alert because there are so many things in our world that are out to damage it. These peptides give your skin the resources it needs to defend and protect itself from these influences. Free radicals are neutralized.
Not only are the results of this facial instant, but the effects accumulate with each treatment. After every treatment, your skin is able to produce more and more collagen. So you can be happy and satisfied with your immediate results, AND you get to enjoy knowing that without any effort on your part, your body is producing collagen that’s helping create even more results.
For more information about this cutting-edge facial or to book your first appointment, call our salon today and speak with one of our knowledgeable staff members.

Summer - A busy time of year
Summer is a busy time of year - which can really disrupt your self-care! Pool party, vacations and the kids are home from school. Your calendar is jam-packed with activities, and it’s easy to lose sight of your beauty and wellness routines amid the hustle.
Summer is a busy time of year - which can really disrupt your self-care! Pool party, vacations and the kids are home from school. Your calendar is jam-packed with activities, and it’s easy to lose sight of your beauty and wellness routines amid the hustle.
Just because your schedule is turned upside down, it doesn’t mean that your self-care should be thrown out the window. Reconnect with your inner self, and what matters most to you: a healthy, beautiful skin and energy filled body.
Try a few of these summer self-care tips to keep your beauty skin and health on the right track:
Welcome beauty into your life - Find the things you love that soothe you, whether it be Beauty Journey Treatments with calming music or fresh-cut flowers. Also, take a few moments each day to appreciate the beauty all around you. It comes in so many forms such as treating yourself with one of our Facial Sculpting.
Avoid Sun/UV damaged - Sun-damaged skin often shows signs of premature aging such as fine lines, wrinkles, and discoloration. That's why it's imperative to use sun protection every day. Our Replenishing Tinted Sunscreen guards your skin against UV rays while providing nourishing coverage that can be used underneath or in place of foundation.
Hydrates your skin from the inside out - Hot or warm water with lemon in the early morning. Drink cool water with few slice of Lime or add few slices of Strawberries for your favor. How much of water do you need to drink? Drink at least half of your body weight. For example, your weight is 100 pounds, then drink 50 ounces.
Try some new healthy activities - You don’t have to drag yourself to the gym when you can get outside and enjoy the fresh air! Explore the world around you by riding a bike, hiking or swimming, and gain a fresh perspective on your life. We are part of nature, but often lose our connection. Stop your busy mind to take in the wonder and abundance.
Beauty Sleep - Too much party and not enough sleep doesn’t make you look good or feel good. Sleep has a profound effect on our appearance, weight, stress level, mood, memory and overall well-being.
Disconnect - Setting your smartphone down can be difficult! However, you’ll enjoy your life and your family more with less digital distractions. Appreciate every moment you have together, and you’ll improve your personal connections. Try to set some rules, such as no digital at the dinner table and at least 30 minutes before bed.
Antioxidant - Antioxidants are good for you but do you really know what they do? Antioxidants actually protect your cells against free radicals: the molecules produced when your body is exposed to things like stress, pollution, tobacco smoke and radiation or when your body breaks down food. These free radicals can be harmful to your cells and can contribute to diseases. Eat more chia seeds, kale and acai—they contain a larger amount of vitamins, nutrients and antioxidants than other foods and help promote internal health and external beauty. Apply Enlighten Serum topical protecting against free radicals also improves skin viability, increases skin hydration and dermis thickness. It has the power to protect skin against the sun and pollution.
Surrender to interruptions - Very little in life ever goes according to plan. Let’s yourself laugh it off, and be ready with a backup plan or just go with the flow. We forget we can remove much of our mental suffering by learning to let go of expectations and trying to control much of life. We can learn to surrender and embrace the opportunity of unknowns.
When you focus on self-care, you’ll be more present for your loved ones and more energized to take on summer’s offerings. It all starts with keeping the “me-time” in your life and not losing your sense of self and the fundamental prerequisites to maintaining your beauty skin and well-being year round.

The Dangers of Sugar for Your Skin and Health
Sugar is everywhere. You probably already know that certain foods and beverages — such as soft drinks and candy — are loaded with sugar. But what you may not know is that the sweet stuff is added to processed foods of all kinds, from peanut butter to spaghetti sauce.
Sugar is everywhere. You probably already know that certain foods and beverages — such as soft drinks and candy — are loaded with sugar. But what you may not know is that the sweet stuff is added to processed foods of all kinds, from peanut butter to spaghetti sauce. Even packaged foods that are advertised as "healthy," "light," or "diet" may have a high sugar content. To make sure you're avoiding sugar in all its forms, make sure to read labels at the supermarket before buying.
The Effect on Sugar on Your Skin
If you have issues with acne, sugar could be the culprit. You've likely heard that the old adage "chocolate causes breakouts" is a myth; however, there's actually some truth to it. Any food that contains too much sugar can lead to breakouts, because sugar is an inflammatory substance. One of the easiest ways to achieve clearer, smoother, healthier skin is to simply remove sugar from your diet.
Sugar and Overall Health
It's not just your skin that's affected by sugar — this substance can have a damaging effect on your body as well. Not only can sugar raise your risk of obesity and diabetes, it can also harm your kidney and liver. In addition, sugar raises your body's level of uric acid, which can elevate your heart disease risk. By cutting sugar, you're doing both your skin and body a favor.
Tips for Reducing Your Sugar Intake
Quitting sugar doesn't have to be difficult. When you crave something sweet, reach for a piece of fruit instead of a processed piece of cake or candy. Increasing your water intake can work wonders for your sugar cravings, because water makes you feel fuller longer. Adding Omega-3 fatty acids to your diet — if you're not already consuming them — can help offset the damaging effects of sugar and soothe overall inflammation.
The longer you go without sugar, the fewer cravings you'll experience. And, once you see the positive effects of abstaining from sugar, it'll be easy to avoid this harmful substance. Self-care is a great way to nurture yourself while reducing bad habits and developing good ones. We offer a range of pampering facials that nourish your skin while reducing stress and tension.

Mother's Day is a great opportunity for treating your mom, or yourself, to an anti-aging Sculplla treatment at Beauty Journey Studio. This innovative Korean treatment is the latest in wrinkle-erasing technology. It provides the look of fillers with no needles — like all of our treatments, Sculplla is non-invasive and gentle to your skin. The signs of aging show on the skin as fine lines, wrinkles, looseness, and sagging. With Sculplla, we can help you achieve a more youthful appearance.
Advantages of Sculplla
Our Sculplla treatment uses a unique serum in conjunction with a sheet made from encapsulated hydrogen. It's the same formula you'll find in Sculptra filler, but our delivery system is unique. When it comes into contact with the serum, it drives the nourishing ingredients deep into the skin for targeted delivery. The serum contains Plla-Pila, or Poly L Lactic Acid, which is a synthetic polymer that boosts your skin's natural collagen production. It's also packed with skin-saving peptides and Niacinamide, which has powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that calm the skin and neutralize free radicals. Sculplla can:
Plump fine lines and wrinkles
Contract pores
Remove blackheads
Provide the appearance of thread shaving
Give the face a more youthful, contoured appearance
In addition to Sculplla treatments, there are some other ways to nourish and protect your skin. Give your mother or treat yourself to one of our gentle, natural, non-abrasive products like our Enlighten Serum, which is a powerful multi-C serum that not only helps reverse UVA/UVB damage but also fights damaging free radicals for revitalized, youthful-looking skin. Or, opt for Stem Cell Therapy — this serum is suitable for all ages and accelerates healthy cell growth for smooth, clear skin. If you're not sure which of our products is best for your skin type, our experienced team of skin care professionals can help you choose.
What to Expect from a Sculplla Treatment
Because Sculplla treatments don't use any needles, there's no discomfort. Sculplla has no downtime — all you have to do is avoid sweat and water for 12 hours post-treatment. The effects of Sculplla are cumulative, which means the more treatments you get, the better your skin will look and feel. Although one treatment can last between 3 and 6 weeks, we recommend three to eight treatments for best results. With this many treatments spaced one week apart, your results can last as long as 3 to 5 months.

Get Rid of Acne with a Gentle Approach
Acne is a skin concern that affects people of all ages; contrary to popular belief, it's not just teenagers who suffer from breakouts. Adult acne is just as prevalent, but the good news is that we can help you achieve the clear, beautiful skin you've always dreamed of having.
Acne is a skin concern that affects people of all ages; contrary to popular belief, it's not just teenagers who suffer from breakouts. Adult acne is just as prevalent, but the good news is that we can help you achieve the clear, beautiful skin you've always dreamed of having. Read on to learn what you can do to get rid of acne and keep your skin looking and feeling its best.
Prevention is Key for Acne-Free Skin
A healthy lifestyle goes a long way towards keeping acne at bay. While certain foods don't necessarily cause acne, the quality of what we eat definitely shows in our skin. Encourage glowing skin from head to toe by staying hydrated with plenty of water, and fill your plate with fruits and vegetables, which are packed with skin-saving antioxidants.
Avoiding stress is important when it comes to achieving clear skin. According to Dr. Sushma Shah, it's a fact that excessive stress can show on your skin—especially if you're already prone to breakouts. During times of high tension, the cells that produce sebum can go into overdrive and cause your pores to become clogged, leading to an acne eruption. Exercise is a great way to de-stress, and it increases circulation—which has a positive effect on the health of your skin.
Another way to prevent and treat acne is by using products that are specially formulated for your skin concerns. Beauty Journey Studio has an array of skin-nourishing formulas to tackle your biggest skin issues; our products are effective yet extremely gentle. You don't have to worry about over-drying your skin because our products are designed to preserve your skin's natural moisture barrier.
Choose the Right Products to Treat Your Acne
Our skin care products harness the power of nature to give you your best skin ever. A good place to start is with one of our cleansers. Try our Coconut Lime Balancing Cleanser, which gently removes pore-clogging dirt and debris from your skin while leaving its natural oils intact. The natural ingredients in this formula help balance oil production and calm inflammation, while also reducing discoloration from sun damage and acne scars.
After cleansing, treat your skin to a serum. Our Nutrition B serum is ideal for acne-prone skin because it's formulated with skin-soothing ingredients that not only battle breakouts but also calm redness and normalize your skin's natural oil production. This serum protects against damaging UV rays and restores the epidermal barrier to keep your skin looking fresh and youthful.
It's a misconception that acne sufferers shouldn't use moisturizer. In fact, all skin types need hydration; the key is choosing the right product for you. Try our Jasper moisturizer, which is packed with hyaluronic acid and jojoba seed oil. Jojoba is good for oily skin because it balances hydration levels without clogging pores or causing a greasy residue.
Beauty Journey Studio Can Reveal Your Best Skin Ever
At Beauty Journey Studio, we not only offer premium-quality skin care products but also a wide range of facial treatments that help you put your best face forward. Try Enhance Therapy, which is an all-inclusive package for acne sufferers that's customized to suit your skin by our team of highly trained and experienced estheticians. The Truth about Acne
Acne, why do I bring up this topic? I have seen so many of you come to my studio have acne and acne scar problems. Some of you have gone through treatments such as micro-dermabrasion and chemical peels. Some of you have taken accutane, antibiotic or even laser based upon recommendations from your dermatologists. Some of you have experienced DIY at home. Do they work? The answer is NO. WHY?
Acne, why do I bring up this topic? I have seen so many of you come to my studio have acne and acne scar problems. Some of you have gone through treatments such as micro-dermabrasion and chemical peels. Some of you have taken accutane, antibiotic or even laser based upon recommendations from your dermatologists. Some of you have experienced DIY at home. Do they work? The answer is NO. WHY?
In reality, Acne is a toxin reaction because our skin is a detox organ. You all might hear from me say it to you a lot. Your skin is a mirror of your internal. What you put in is what you get out. Your skin is a filter to help remove toxicity out of your body. The majority problems from Acne are coming from Candida, estrogen toxin, and your diet.
First let‘s talk about Candida. Why do you have Candida?
Candida has over 56 different strains causing different problems on our skin such as Acne, Rosacea, Eczema, Psoriasis, or Seborrheic Dermatitis. Some common symptoms on our body are allergic reaction such as congested nose, headache, dizziness, diarrhea, arthritis, depression... Others are Gastrointestinal problem, Respiratory problem, Cardio-vascular problem, Genitourinary problem, Musculoskeletal problem, Central nervous system problem, and the list is on and on…..
What is Candida?
Candida is one of many different types of yeasts. Yeast cells are able to grow on the surface of all living things and occur virtually everywhere. The fact is we breathe, eat, and drink them daily. Because they are part of our daily lives, we have yeast growing in our skin, on other body surfaces, and in our intestines. Normally, our bodies’ defense system keeps the total number of yeast cells under control. So, candida colonies in our intestinal tract are nothing to worry about. However, poor nutrition or medication such as steroid, birth control pills, antibiotics, accutane etc…. or sluggish or impaired immune system weaken the body’s ability to fight off yeast. Stress and environment pollutants can also play a role in reducing the body’s defenses over candida. When this happens, yeast colonies grow rapidly and candida may result .When Candida overgrows in your gut, you will have small bumps or cysts on your forehead or cheeks.
What is about Estrogen toxins?
Every day in your adult life, you are facing 1 millions of toxins. 1/3 of them are Estrogen toxins which comes from the food you eat and drink containing either pesticides, plasticides, food preservatives and chlorine.
How can you clean up your diet?
Foods with a high glycemic index link to acne. So, avoid them as much as you can. When you eat a lot of high glycemic foods, your body experiences an increase of glucose and insulin levels. A body with a low glycemic diet has 50% fewer accounts of acne. Switch to whole grain options, instead, because they’re high in antioxidants and are anti-inflammatory.
Sugar, as much as we love right? it is one of the absolute worst things for our skin. It is the most acne food that we consume, and weakens our immune system to boot! Too much of it will make your skin, health, and promote candida to over growth. Unfortunately, studies have shown that sugar feeds cancer as well. So in general, we all have to cut back. When it comes to your skin, too much of it in your body weakens your ability to fight bacteria. Long story short, more toxins = worse skin.
How to prevent acne:
Cut down any foods containing white sugars and sugar substitutes as much as you can.
Cut down red meat and pork.
Cut down dairy products with milk, buttermilk, whipped cream, sour cream, ice cream including cheese except ricotta and cottage cheese.
Avoid process food as much as you can such as bacon, sausage, ham, hotdogs, luncheon meats, corned beef and pastrami.
Avoid Alcoholic beverages.
Avoid artificially sweetened drinks and food products.
Lastly, besides cleaning up your diet you need to feed your skin with the right tools.
Tools are critical to treat acne, repair and improve your skin: Fancy Jasper, stem cell, FGF-DNA repair serum, Rescue cream and Lipid Serum. Also, investing with the proper treatments such as Beauty Journey Signature treatment and Light wave treatment, then your skin will transform to the healthy, glowing skin. We are here to help you changing your lives, not just your skin.

Characteristics of Impaired Barrier Function
Barrier function refers to the complex of lipids (fatty materials – ceramides, fatty acids and cholesterol) that is present between the cells in corneum. This lipid barrier guards moisture (TEWL - transepidermal water loss) and protects against dehydration, redness and hypersensitivity and it also provides a lipid barrier to prevent irritants from entering the skin.

This lipid barrier guards moisture (TEWL - transepidermal water loss) and protects against dehydration, redness and hypersensitivity and it also provides a lipid barrier to prevent irritants from entering the skin.
Think of your skin like a brick wall, your cells are the bricks and are held together by the mortar caller intercellular lipid matrix. These lipids fill in the gaps between the cells in the same way mortar fills the spaces between bricks in a wall.
Common causes and characteristics:
Overuse of aggressive products, and use of products with excessive perfumes and preservatives
Harsh climate
Removal of the skin’s natural moisturizing factor (NMF), the substances that are responsible for maintaining the skin’s hydration and pliability, by attracting and holding moisture. Removal of the NMF will result in transepidermal water loss (TEWL)
Interruption of intracellular lipids found between the dead surface cells and responsible for trapping water in the stratum corneum; this lipid bilayer provides an occlusive, impermeable barrier and prevents the loss of water and NMF
TEWL from inside the body through the epidermis to the surrounding atmosphere; a small amount of TEWL is critical to skin sensitivity; TEWL is increased when the epidermis is compromised and the NMF is decreased
Keratin denaturation, an alternative of the protein’s shape through some form of external stress (ex: application of heat, acid or alkaki), may prevent the keratin from carrying out its normal cellular functions.
Foods containing high levels of Omega 3’s (3000mcg) essential fatty acids provides powerful anti-inflammatory characteristics. Some common sources are salmon, chia seeds and kiwi seed oil.

Why You Should Be Using Professional Grade OVER Over-The-Counter Products
After a facial or treatment, your skin is sure to be glowing, plump and radiant. But it’s just as important to nourish and treat your skin at home as it is to receive regular facials from a professional. And while you think you may be giving your skin what it needs with department store or drugstore products, the truth is that you should be using professional grade products to prolong the benefits of your facial and maintain all of the great results your treatments give you.
Professional grade products work differently than anything you can buy from even the most high-end counter at the department store. Generally, the products that are carried on the market have about 4% active ingredients, the rest of the product, whether it’s a serum or a cream, is just fillers, water, preservatives and fragrance. And while you may be getting visible results from something you find from a designer beauty brand, the fact is that it’s only working on the surface of your skin and most results are just cosmetic – products can trick the eye with special light-reflecting ingredients to blur wrinkles or cause minor inflammation so that your skin looks temporarily full. Professional grade products, like the ones offered at Beauty Journey, contain 90% active ingredients, giving your skin what it really needs to look its best. While most products work on just the surface of the skin, professional grade products penetrate deeper, right into the dermis, where skin problems form. By working under the surface, professional grade products can prevent, reverse and correct existing skin issues and work to prevent any problems from developing. Professional grade products also have more elegant formulations that feel better on your skin and more sophisticated ingredients with proven results.

Skin Basics - How It Protects You from the Surrounding Environment
Your skin is divided into three layers: the epidermis, the dermis and the subcutis (hypodermis). To understand how skincare, especially anti-aging skincare, works, it is important to know just how your skin works to repair itself and protect you from the world around you.
Your skin is divided into three layers: the epidermis, the dermis and the subcutis (hypodermis). To understand how skincare, especially anti-aging skincare, works, it is important to know just how your skin works to repair itself and protect you from the world around you. Skin is your body’s largest organ and it’s the only thing that is keeping the environment’s pollutants out of your system, so it is crucial to keep it working at its best and to make sure that all of its processes are running smoothly.
The top layer of your skin is the epidermis, which forms a protective barrier on the surface of your skin. While many skincare experts may lead you to believe that this layer of "dead" skin cells is unnecessary and can lead to a dull or lifeless complexion, it is an important part of your skin. The dead cells are a part of a layer of protection, keeping your skin from being affected by infection, dehydration and are a key part of anti-aging. Television commercials and skincare companies want you to believe that it is imperative to get rid of every single last dead skin cell, but in truth, that first layer of skin reflects up to 80% of damaging UV radiation. So while exfoliating is important, it’s also important to make sure that you aren’t over-exfoliating and causing more damage to your skin. The epidermis also contains a layer of lipids, which keep your skin from drying out. Many products can strip this lipid layer, leaving skin dehydrated and accelerating aging.
The second layer of skin is the dermis, where many skin problems develop. It is the thickest layer of your skin and is where collagen, elastin and other important cells are housed. Every day, the dermis is pushing new cells up into the epidermis. The dermis beings thinning between the age of 20 and 30, and continues to lose about 1% of density per year. Keeping your dermis healthy is where professional grade products and nutrition come into play, since most products can’t penetrate deeply into the skin and a healthy diet keeps your skin working its best. When you do not provide proper nutrition and hydration to your skin, the effects are shown in the dermis and can lead to the formation of wrinkles, acne and inflammation.
Underneath the dermis is the subcutis, which is where your skin keeps a steady supply of stem cells, vitamins, minerals and more. There isn’t much UV damage down at this level, since the bulk of damage occurs above, but it’s important to note that nutrition, stress and other factors can affect the subcutis and can lead to cellulite and other skin concerns.
Together, the three layers work to protect your body from outside stressors, so it is important to keep them working their best. A combination of professional grade products, regular visits to Estheticians and proper UV protection will keep your skin healthy and you’ll see the results in a healthy, glowing and radiant complexion.

Are You Suffering from Inflammation? Find out NOW
What your body considers a natural reaction can actually be a bad thing for your skin. Inflammation occurs when your body encounters something that activates its defenses. Bacteria, viruses and injuries can all activate an inflammatory reaction in the body, which brings white blood cells to an area of the body to start the healing process. But, sometimes, the process lingers and can lead to low levels of chronic inflammation, affecting your blood vessels, joints and yes, even your skin.

But, sometimes, the process lingers and can lead to low levels of chronic inflammation, affecting your blood vessels, joints and yes, even your skin.
Nobody can pinpoint one thing that affects skin inflammation, but diet, stress and lack of sleep can all be culprits. As the body’s largest organ, and one of the most active, your skin is usually one of the first places that inflammation can appear. Staying on top of stress levels, maintaining a healthy diet and getting plenty of sleep can all work to keep inflammation in check, but not all of us can juggle those things. Inflammation can show up on the skin in the form of Rosacea and wrinkles as well as sagging skin. Wound healing and collagen production can slow and your skin can appear sallow when you’re being affected by inflammation. Acne can also flare up when inflammation levels are high, but there are a few ways to keep everything in balance so that your skin can look its best.
Diet is one way that you can monitor the inflammation in your body. Eating a diet rich in omega-3 and omega-6 fats, which can be found in fatty fish, can keep inflammation away. Antioxidants from fruits and vegetables can battle inflammation by reducing the amount of free radical damage in your skin. If you find yourself with dull-looking skin, dry patches or become prone to sensitivity, a visit to Beauty Journey can help, too. Working from the inside out, our treatments in conjunction with lifestyle changes can lead to improved skin. Using high-tech treatments and products with a high percentage of active ingredients, inflammation can be tamed and your skin can look its best.
To find out which treatments will help calm your inflammation and which products can keep it away — all while nourishing, protecting and providing anti-aging ingredients, contact Beauty Journey.
